Earlier this month a few of my friends and I drove out to California for Labor Day weekend and we had such a great time. Living so close to California, it seems like I was making trips out there almost 3 times a year but now that I’ve gotten older (aka having to adult) I don’t make it out to this beautiful state quite as much. Luckily for me, two of my roommates from college live in California so I always have an excuse to go. As if living in California couldn’t get any better, my roommates and friends live in Malibu, or “the ‘bu” as I like to call it. For the past three years I’ve been making trips out to the ‘bu so I thought I would share a little bit about my most recent trip + my favorite spots in the Malibu area.
Places To Visit In Malibu, California
Our first stop once we got into Malibu was the infamous Malibu Farm . This was my first time here but my friend Dev had raved about it for years so I was so excited to try it out. So when you get there, the Malibu Farm restaurant is directly to your left but the cafe is all the way down the pier. The walk to the cafe is beautiful, I just love the Malibu beaches! When we got to the cafe, I ordered the Swedish Mini Pancakes even though it was like 2 pm. They were delicious. My friends ordered a Kale juice and Watermelon juice, I’m not a huge fan of juices but I tried them and both were good! The pier is so pretty so we took some pictures of our juices and just enjoyed the view. Right before we we got our food, a pigeon decided to poop on my friend Taylor’s arm. It was quite the hilarious thing, luckily the bird missed her white dress and jean jacket by a few inches. You can see a clip of that moment in the video at the end of this post!
If you’re in the Malibu area, Malibu Farm is a must see spot! There are a ton of places to take pictures around the restaurant and along the pier.
El Bachelor House
After the cafe we decided to take my favorite road in Malibu (Kanan rd.) up to the one and only, Bachelor house. If you’re apart of Bachelor Nation and you find yourself our in Malibu, you definitely should take the time and drive past the Bachelor house. Kanan is such a fun road to drive on, it’s super windy and it has amazing views. Especially if you’re headed down towards the beach you can see the water over the mountains, it’s great, trust me. The house is kind of hard to miss but if you pay close attention you can see the arches in the backyard as you turn one of the last corners. I’m not sure which street it’s on but if you look it up, I’m sure you can find it! My friend Dev drove us up there and we actually stopped on the side of the road and went exploring. The back gate was open to the house and it took everything in us not to just walk in, but the fear of being arrested for trespassing kept us away. At this time, we didn’t know that Ari was going to the Bachelor and we were hoping it was Peter so we kept calling out his name just to see if he was there (he wasn’t sadly, now we know why). I plan to share my thoughts on Ari’s season so stay tuned for that on the blog in a few months!
The Malibu Cafe
The real reason we took Kanan road was to visit The Malibu Cafe at Calamigos Ranch. This was also somewhere I had heard about for years but never made the effort to go. If you’ve seen the cute #MalibuFarm sign anywhere on Instagram, this is where it’s located and it’s just as cute in person. The Malibu Cafe is also super famous for their frosé. I’m not a huge wine fan so I passed on getting this drink, also it’s $16 so just be prepared for that, but I tried a sip of my friend’s and it wasn’t terrible! This space doubles as a restaurant and wedding venue! It’s a super cute place and they have a few yard games you can play while hanging out or eating.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Snapchat for awhile, you’ve probably seen me post a picture of an acaí bowl at least once or twice. Well, that acaí bowl is LEGIT the best one I’ve ever had and you can find it at SunLife. Anytime I’m out in Malibu, I have to stop by SunLife at least once. It truly is the best acaí bowl, in my opinion, so I would highly recommend it to anyone. I get the Brazilian Bowl, here is what comes in it:
“Acaí, banana, strawberry, blueberry, almond milk, and apple juice topped with granola, banana, strawberry, hemp seeds and coconut.”
I get it without coconut, but that’s just a personal preference. Their smoothies are also super good, so if you’re in the mood for something lighter, try out a smoothie! SunLife is a great place if you’re looking for something healthy or want an easy snack to take down to the beach. There are a few locations in the Malibu area:
- Pt. Dume
- Thousand Oaks

SO if you ever find yourself in Malibu I would highly recommend hitting up these spots. As you can see 3 out of 4 of these are food places. Whenever I’m in Malibu it seems like all I do is hang out by the beach and eat, but I don’t mind it one bit. Malibu feels like a second home to me at this point so I’m so happy I got to share with you a few of my fave places.
What’s your favorite spot in Malibu? I’d love to find more places to visit so comment below your recommendations!
Also, you can get a BTS look at our trip in the little vlog that we filmed!
