Where To Buy Jeans + Tips To Consider

November 5, 2017

Hello everyone! Today I will be starting a series on the blog called Life As Reags, where I’ll be sharing some of my favorite places to shop and other general tips for getting through life as a “petite woman”. On this week’s post, I will be sharing a few of my favorite places to find JEANS.

Fun fact about me: I’m 4’9. Well, if we’re being honest I am really 4’8 and three quarters but 4’9 just rolls off the tongue a little bit easier.

As you can imagine, being that short leads to a lot of issues when it comes to shopping. Finding jeans is especially difficult and for me, being short and petite, it often seems impossible. However, I believe I have finally cracked the code when it comes to finding jeans that will actually fit.

First let’s start with some tips to keep in mind when shopping for jeans.

These are some tips I’ve put together based on my body type, so feel free to adjust them based on your individual size!

Always Try On.

I am a firm believer in taking the time to try on any clothes I find in the store, especially jeans. There are so many times where I have held jeans up to my legs and they seem like they would fit but when I actually go to try them on, they definitely don’t. I highly recommend trying on jeans before you purchase them. This seems like an obvious thing to do but so many of my friends refuse to try things on and I never understand why!

If There Is a Short Option, Get It.

Whoever decided to invent a “short” and “long” option for jeans is definitely my hero. At most of the stores I shop at (see below for my faves), you can find jeans that have a “short” option. This essentially just means the jeans are “shorter” than the “regular” size, in terms of inseam length. I have found that short length jeans are about 2 inches shorter than the regular length, which may not seem like a lot but it definitely makes a difference.

Petite Sizing Is Not Always The Best

One would think that petite sizing would actually fit me, but I am here to tell you that is false. Depending on your height, petite sizing may be perfect for you, especially if you’re in the 5 – 5’4 range. So if you find yourself around that height, definitely check out the petite section but if you’re like me, you can look around but don’t expect to find a jackpot because in most cases the petite clothing is just like the others, aka too big.

The Holy Grail: High Waisted + Cropped

A few years ago I discovered my ideal pair of jeans: high waisted and cropped. The high waist is perfect because the jean sits higher on your body which makes the jeans shorter. Then you add in the cropped jean which is already shorter than usual and you have the perfect pair of jeans. Once I made this discovery, there really was not turning back. Almost all of my jeans are high waisted and I tend to only buy cropped jeans just because I know they will fit better. One of my favorite stores, American Eagle, is where I discovered this perfect pairing. Cropped or ankle jeans are typically what I buy, but I definitely preferred cropped, just because they are typically shorter than ankle jeans. SO, if you are 5ft and under, I would highly recommend looking for high waisted, cropped jeans wherever you shop!

My Top Places To Buy Jeans

  1. American Eagle
  2. H&M
  3. Topshop
  4. Target
  5. Express

Those were my tips to consider when buying jeans, plus some of my favorite places to shop as well! I struggled with finding jeans that actually fit me for so long but I am so happy I have figured out what works for me.

Keep an eye out for more posts on this series! I am super excited to share all of my tips + tricks when it comes to living that 4’9 life.

Comment below if you deal with any of these struggles as well and any tips you have when it comes to finding that perfect jean!
